The Uncomfortable Fact of Being Human

Let’s face it – addiction is a place within us where we feel we’ve lost control, and that hurts our sense of sovereignty and dignity. Addiction, mental illness and domestic violence – which sometimes go together – are all places within our human experience where it appears that we are not free.

What happens when a person is so addicted, so crazy or so attacked that it seems there is no way out? These are some of the worst places of degradation and despair. You may be able to relate to this personally from your own life experience. The situation seems hopeless. As a human being, these places scare the shit out of me but as an eternal soul, they fascinate me, because I’m on a quest to find out what is true with a capital T, and what is not. I’m also here, as I believe we all are, to learn life lessons and to share love.

Truth is freedom. It has to be. Any binding of the eternal must be temporary, for to be eternal is to be free. I don’t believe in a hateful god that would put anyone in hell for eternity. If you feel, as I do, that ultimately God or Life or Nature is Love, then let’s explore freedom together. How can we take refuge within it, even as we’re coming out of the densest, darkest pits of hell?
